Hi, I’m Taylor.
My personal journey into becoming a therapist involved looking courageously and diligently at my own self-critical voices, my insecurities, arrogance, fears, and assumptions that I’d gathered from years of growing up in a privileged yet competitive and striving Western culture that was not very attuned to my sensitive nature. It’s an ongoing path. Finding what I am grateful for in my early years has been as much a part of my healing as has been acknowledging the wounds and getting honest about the outdated coping strategies.
My clinical training includes a master’s from the California Institute of Integral Studies, practicum at the Gestalt-based Church Street Counseling Center, and advanced Internal Family Systems (IFS) Levels 1 & 2 trainings. As a certified Feeding Your Demons facilitator, I help clients transform difficult emotions into valuable allies through a unique blend of Tibetan Buddhist visualization and Gestalt therapy.
Internal Family Systems is a unique therapeutic way of finding our core, wise self that is often obscured by parts of us that are wounded or protective. These parts are what are acting out as anxious, depressed, addicted, angry, frenetic, people-pleasing, judgemental, etc. IFS is a way of understanding and then relating in a healthier way with ourselves and others.
Feeding Your Demons can be used to bring focused healing to any number of challenges including anxiety, self-criticism, anger, fear, sadness, physical pains or illnesses. It is founded on restructuring our relationship pattern with the challenging emotion or situation (similar to IFS in that way!) – namely not blaming or hating the challenging feeling but approaching it with a vast, open-hearted ground of our Being.
“Befriending Ourselves” is a retreat I created and lead several times throughout the year. This immersive experience uniquely blends IFS techniques with Buddhist dharma teachings. Participants engage in practical, experiential exercises designed to transform their relationship with emotions and challenging experiences. These retreats are a ripe venue to deepen your understanding of the therapeutic tools we work with in your sessions. They are also open to the public and are a good way to tap into these wisdom streams in a group setting for longer chunks of time, with or without doing individual psychotherapy.
Psychology, spirituality, and Nature offer us so much wisdom. I bring spiritual teachings and teachings from nature into psychotherapy because these ways have worked for me and countless others through the eons. I believe when we turn towards these ancient allies, we are embedding ourselves into our real home: this earth, these bodies, increasing our sense of belonging, which I believe is an underlying deep need of all people especially in these times.
My therapeutic foundation is enriched by two decades of transformational exploration, including meditation retreats, psychedelic and plant medicine journeys, indigenous vision quests, dance, art, sound healing, world travel, permaculture study, and sacred sexuality practices.
